Down with the Ruling System that Brought About Martial Law!

The imposition of martial law by the US-backed Marcos dictatorship 40 years ago marked the escalation of grave crimes against the Filipino workers and people. Martial Law resulted in the wanton violation of the workers’ and people’s civil and political rights, severe exploitation and oppression of the country’s workers, farmers and toiling masses, plunder of the country’s resources by big foreign and local capitalists, plunder of the people’s money by the dictator and his cronies, and increase in usurious debts entered into by the dictator with international financial institutions.

Martial Law anniversary: 40 years and still no justice

They haven’t stopped fighting after forty years.

Activists from the 70’s and 80’s joined cause-oriented groups Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and Karapatan today in a march to the historic Mendiola bridge to mark the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law. At the forefront of the march were human rights victims from the dark years of the Marcos dictatorship. They were joined by a younger generation of activists from different organizations.
