Drop Mikey from partylist nominees, Comelec told

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) today assailed the inclusion of the son of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the list of nominees formally submitted by a partylist group to the Comelec. The militant group also expressed alarm that known Arroyo allies who held previous positions in government are included in the nominees of other partylist groups.

Makabayan senatorial bet and Nacionalista Party guest candidate Satur Ocampo today joined various sectors in condemning the Supreme Court decision allowing Pres. Arroyo to appoint justices of the Court despite the Constitutional ban on presidential appointments, saying it was part of plans to protect her from suit and allow a comeback via Charter change. "Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's immediate plans are becoming more and more transparent as the days pass. With the SC decision, she will be able to hand-pick the next Supreme Court chief justice and another justice thereby making the Supreme Court a purely Arroyo-appointed and subservient Court," Ocampo said. Bayan presses AFP to abide by CHR order, slams GMA for US State Dep’t rights report

The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan today called on Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff. Gen. Delfin Bangit to strictly comply with an order of the Commission on Human Rights to the AFP to bring the 43 detained health workers to a public hearing on March 18. The CHR order dated February 26, also directed the AFP to strictly comply with RA 7438 on the rights of the persons detained. Read More »
