QUEZON CITY – Amidst the escalation of conflict between the GRP and the MILF in Mindanao, and the Arroyo administration's attempts to railroad Charter Change, students from the University of the Philippines Diliman show their protest in a unique way--through a dance competition.

The dissolution of the government peace panel in the talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front is an attempt at political appeasement at the expense of the peace process. While it appears to appease the opponents of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) and the critics of Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, the move also shuts the door to serious peace negotiations. The move is a dangerous double-bladed sword.

In line with her brutal policy of suppressing the revolutionary forces of the people, Gloria M. Arroyo has apparently closed the door to peace negotiations by declaring that she would negotiate with communities rather than with the armed revolutionary movements like the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), unless they first surrender and agree to be subjected to disarmament, demobilization and rehabilitation under the terms of the continuing system of oppression and exploitation.

US ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney is blatantly lying by claiming that she was merely invited to witness the aborted signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD), that she was ignorant of its content and that the US government had nothing to do with the GRP-MILF peace negotiations nor with the controversial MOA-AD.
